For twenty-seven years, captains and friends have gathered during the second week of May for the Challenge Cup. What began as a golf tournament has become a tradition built on fathers and sons, competition, and lasting friendships.
Over the years, the Challenge Cup has changed and expanded, but our heart has always been to create competitive golf among friends. This year’s captain’s gathering is an opportunity to rediscover the spirit that has defined the event for nearly three decades.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Vapor Ministries, all expenses for your time at Pursell Farms are covered.

Pursell Farms is tucked away in the rolling hills of central Alabama and is one of the best golf destinations in the Southeast. With incredible golf, beautiful views, and plenty of places to relax, it’s the perfect setting for a few days with friends. We couldn’t think of a better place to gather for this special event.
Pursell Farms is conveniently located just off Highway 280 and is easily accessible from several major cities:
For turn-by-turn directions, use:
386 Talladega Springs Road, Sylacauga, AL 35151.
Flying into Birmingham is the easiest option for most guests. Birmingham–Shuttlesworth International Airport is located about 60 minutes from Pursell Farms and offers direct flights from many major cities. Rental cars are available at the airport, and the drive to the resort is straightforward via US-280 East.
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes from Pursell Farms. From the airport, guests can rent a car and follow I-20 West into Alabama before connecting to Highway 280 toward Sylacauga. The route is toll-free and offers a scenic drive through east Alabama.
Because this is our first Captain’s Gathering, we’re treating it as both a reunion and a conversation about the future. We can’t wait to spend time together, hear your ideas, and experiment with new ways to ensure the Challenge Cup remains a meaningful tradition for years to come.
If you haven’t already filled out the attendance form, please take a moment to do so. Other than that, everything else is taken care of.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Vapor Ministries, all lodging, meals, and golf during your stay at Pursell Farms are fully covered. Simply arrive, enjoy the experience, and look forward to a great few days together.
Due to limited space, this year’s Captain’s Gathering is reserved for captains and a small number of invited guests. Please do not invite or bring additional guests, including assistant captains.
